About Marlene Klassen

Born in Winnipeg, Marlene Klassen has lived and worked in Toronto since 1988.  Her practice is multi-disciplinary, producing painting, collage, drawing and installation.  Her current body of work is a series of evocative abstract drawings and paintings that employ the landscape as a metaphor for crisis.  Using translucent layers of pigment,  the images suggest conflict between controlled order and organic chaos creating works that are haunting and yet beautifully melancholic.  Klassen exhibits nationally in solo and group exhibitions.  She was an Artist in Residence at the prestigious Banff Centre and La Chambre Blanche in Quebec. Her work is represented in both Canadian corporate and private collections.
